This Week in EV: China Week
Its the China Auto Show this week so its only right we kick off with some of the latest coming out the Chinese OEM’s. First up is Zeekr who has unveiled its new EV architecture Sea-M and the first model to be based on it the Mix might mean that VW’s ID Buzz finally has some competition. The Sea-M architecture has been optimised for space and that certainly comes across in the Zeekr Mix, we’re still light on details so one to watch. Read more
Next up from Zeekr is an ultra luxury version of its existing 009 multi purpose vehicle. The 4 seat 009 Grand is designed to deliver ultimate luxury with rear seats that recline to an extreme and with a finish that includes clad with polished marble and a huge LCD screen. This is definitely a car to be driven around in rather than one to drive. Read more
The largest of the Chinese EV OEM’s BYD have unveiled more details of its forthcoming Sea Lion 07. The Sea Lion 07 is a direct competitor to the Model Y with it being a very similar size at 4,830 mm, 1,925 mm wide, and 1,620 mm tall for the Sea Lion 07 whilst the Model Y comes in at 4,760 mm long, 1,921 mm wide, and 1,624 mm tall. Smart charging is starting to come to public charging in the UK with Connected Kerb installing the first chargers that can be scheduled to charge a car when electricity is cheapest. With overnight tariffs at 45p a kWh they say this could save drivers £222 per year with a rate that is 22% lower than the average 7kW charger. Whilst that's true it’s still much higher than the 7.5p kWh that those with home chargers can get. Read more
It’s been a bumpy start for the Cybertruck with all of the nearly 4000 produced having to be recalled but Tesla is now fixing them with a quick rivet fix that will stop the accelerator pedal cover from slipping and jamming. In other more positive news for the Cybertruck Tesla revealed that they have hit the 1000 a week production mark this month. Read more
